On the farm
So, what was I saying last week about relatively warm weather?! It is all change now, with toe, and finger-tingling chills in the air, and the first hint of snow and ice in the forecast. I have to say that I am not looking forward to winter weather. Perhaps it’s an age thing. When I was but a spring chicken the winter did not bother me at all. Now I look forward to spring more than ever before! On the plus side, it is not too much longer now until the shortest day, and then we can look forward to them becoming longer again. All in the cycle of things!
The colder weather does not stop us harvesting – unless the ground is frozen solid. We plan ahead as far as is possible to ensure that we are able to fill your boxes. In the last 17 years we have been thwarted only on a couple of occasions, and I would like it to stay that way! We will see what happens this year. Never a dull moment in farming!
Sadly, for the second week running these are missing due to driver shortages. The mushroom grower has not been able to get these sent in time to connect with our wholesale delivery (our fruit and eggs, and the few vegetables that we don’t grow ourselves – such as out-of-season cucumbers). Many apologies if you have ordered mushrooms. We hope that this problem will be resolved shortly. In the meantime, we will reduce your payment to account for the missing items.
Wildlife on the farm
We have been admiring the dramatic, noisy, fly-by shows put on twice a day by the winter-resident geese. They fly in their thousands from the Loch of Skene out over our farm every day! Sometimes they stop to eat the grass, but usually they leave the veg alone – phew!
This weeks’ potatoes
This weeks’ potatoes are Bambino – a slightly waxy potato that will hold together well for boiling. It also bakes well.
It’s getting to be that time of year already! Christmas falls on a Saturday this year. We will be delivering up to Thursday 23rd December.
We will be closed week beginning 27th December and week beginning 3rd January for our annual holiday.
Deliveries begin again week beginning 10th January. If you are a fortnightly customer and you would like to swap weeks in the New Year please let us know.
RETURNING YOUR EMPTY BOXES
It really helps us keep our own prices level if you can return our boxes regularly and in good condition – please wipe them clean and leave them out for us to collect when your next delivery is due. THANK YOU
