On the farm
Well – we have been thanking the Angels this week. We are so grateful to have escaped major damage on the farm. We have some large trees down, many broken branches, and we were without power for two days. But other than that everything is intact – bar an extra dusting of grey hairs!
It is a most nerve-wracking experience waiting in the darkness and listening to a gale, and not knowing what is going on outside. Fortunately for us our shelterbelts and hedges have done a great job at protecting us. Our pack shed and tunnels are in the most sheltered spot on the farm. Even so – we parked the vans in front of the roller doors to help deflect the wind, just in case.
Others have not been so lucky, and many of our fellow growers have been reporting serious damage. Some are still without power. My heart goes out to them. Working with veg is often tough enough without additional trauma! I hope that you have all escaped damage to your homes and gardens and businesses.
Many apologies, but we are currently not able to get hold of white mushrooms. This is due to supply chain problems (not enough drivers). We have a new supplier for chestnut mushrooms, so we will see how we get on with those!
This weeks’ potatoes
This weeks’ potatoes are Setanta – a fine red skinned variety that can be used for all sorts of dishes. It will break down a bit if boiled, so keep an eye on it if you want intact chunks.
It’s getting to be that time of year already! Christmas falls on a Saturday this year. We will be delivering up to Thursday 23rd December.
We will be closed week beginning 27th December and week beginning 3rd January for our annual holiday.
Deliveries begin again week beginning 10th January. If you are a fortnightly customer and you would like to swap weeks in the New Year please let us know.
RETURNING YOUR EMPTY BOXES
The cost of cardboard is soaring. It really helps us keep our own prices stable if you can return our boxes regularly and in good condition – please wipe them clean and leave them out for us to collect when your next delivery is due. THANK YOU
