Newsletter 25th July 2022
On the farm
I need to start this weeks’ newsletter with a BIG thank you to our team of casual summer weeders who have done a brilliant job at saving our carrots, parsnips and swedes from being overwhelmed by weeds. The crops now look great. Strong, and without significant gaps. And the weeders did it in quick time too! No grower could be happier with such an outcome. Weeds are our biggest expense, especially in crops such as carrots that need to be sown direct into the field and thinned by hand. sometimes, as this year, events conspire against us and the weeds sneak ahead. There quickly comes a point when it costs more to weed the crop than the sale price. Hurrah that we have been saved from this!
The season has really suited our brassica crops too. Last season was marginal for some of these, and we had rather a lot of small plants. This year, having done exactly the same thing, we are rewarded with sumptuous plants! It is all down to the combination and timing of light, warmth and water at critical parts of the season. April and May in particular. So this year looks like a rather good one for these crops. We will see how the root crops come on. It won’t be long before we will be harvesting the first of our own tatties, so fingers crossed!
** Gmail issues – please read **
Technology is one of those things that is wonderful when it works, and a bit of a nightmare when it does not! We are through the technical challenge of our online payment update, and now it seems we have email updates to contend with!
Please can you make sure that we are on your safe senders list so that you receive emails from us.
If you have a gmail account for your email you may have noticed that you don’t get email confirmations of your orders with us. This is because gmail is currently blocking some emails from our website. We thought we had resolved the issue several times, but apparently not. If you add us to your safe senders list you are less likely to have a problem receiving your order confirmation, or any other messages from us regarding your order.
RETURNING YOUR EMPTY BOXES
It really helps us keep our own prices stable if you can return our boxes regularly and in good condition – please wipe them clean and leave them out for us to collect when your next delivery is due. THANK YOU
